Jim IS NOT involved in the recording of "Bat Out Of Hell 3", other than the fact that Meat Loaf is covering and recording some of his songs. So………

What is The Dream Engine?

The Dream Engine (2006) is a recently created group from songwriter Jim Steinman and his 21 year co-producer and recording engineer, Steven Rinkoff. Jim and Steven have formed the nucleus of this new group to perform and record Steinman’s songs, mostly new, some rare and unreleased to date, and some classics with a twist. The group takes its name from Jim’s first musical theater piece, The Dream Engine, written as a student at Amherst College, MA in 1969.

Who are The Dream Engine members?

The Dream Engine consists of lead and backing vocalists joining forces as an ensemble, soaring together with a powerful band, to create and recreate the Steinman signature sound. Look for special guests on recordings and at live shows. Bonnie Tyler has joined us as a honorary guest member performing Total Eclipse Of The Heart at our Feb. and March shows. She will be joining us again in the future. Click here for vocalist and band bios.

Why The Dream Engine?

After years of recording Jim’s songs with a superstar cast of singers and with the chance to create a complete vision, Steinman and Rinkoff have created this group to continually put forth soaring, emotional, explosive concerts and recordings with vocal performances driven by the characters within the songs.

What songs have been or are currently being recorded by The Dream Engine?

We have nearly finished recording and mixing versions of the songs: What Part Of My Body Hurts The Most, Safe Sex, We're Still The Children We Once Were, Is Nothing Sacred, Braver Than We Are and (It Hurts) Only When I Feel.

Songs from the Steinman catalog, including Not Allowed To Love, In The Land Of The Pig (The Butcher Is King), Speaking In Tongues, Confessions, Seize The Night, The Future Ain't What It Used To Be and others, have also been recorded/demo'd and are in various stages of completion/consideration. We also recently recorded a track of Nowhere Fast for possible use in a television show, so we'll try to get that released sometime as well. Thanks for the recording suggestions many of you have sent in. Hopefully, in time, we will get to most of them.

Jim has also started work on a new set of songs including the follow up to one of his classics.

When will The Dream Engine release an album? A single? Anything?

Click here for music samples and a link to others.

We still have much recording ahead of us but have focused on getting several promotional tracks finished or close.

Further release dates will be posted as soon as they become available.

When and Where is The Dream Engine performing next?

Is there a live audio/video recording available for purchase?

Not yet. Although we will record (to some degree) each live show, we are first looking to release the material in its studio form at some point in the future. The recording has begun for a studio album as stated above. Please check back at the website or join the mailing list below. Video endeavors are also in the works for TDE.

Is personal recording allowed at the shows?

At this time, prior to release of some new songs, we would ask fans to refrain from recording and sharing files of the shows. It’s not about us selling them to you. It’s about premiering some songs with a studio recorded version, with full Steinman productions. Later, live show recordings will be available at the site for download and/or sharing.

Will Jim Steinman be performing at the live shows?

No, not at this time. However, Jim is fully involved in the production side, working closely with the singers.

Is there a mailing list that I can join to obtain TDE info?

Yes, please send an email, with 'mailing list' in the subject, to comments@thedreamengine.com. We will send a mailing out in the future with info on live shows.

Is this the ‘finished’ website?

No. We have not yet fully finished the design for the envisioned and future Dream Engine website. We have put this site together to get more info to you. We are currently building the engine to bring you adventurous dreams down the road. The future site will incorporate many new and unexpected features.

Please stand by as we focus on the music first. Thanks.

Are these Answers from FAQ an exact description of how it will be?

No. Anything can happen!!
