1969 The Dream Engine, the musical - Jim’s first musical, written at Amherst College. Jim starred in it as well and was offered a contract, by Joe Papp, founder of The Public Theater, at the intermission.
1974 More Than You Deserve - Commissioned by Papp, Steinman collaborated with Michael Weller (Hair and Ragtime) on this musical. During auditions for this play, Steinman met Meat Loaf (along with audition pianist Steve Margoshes) for the first time. And then…
1977 Bat Out Of Hell w/ Meat Loaf, produced by Todd Rundgren with Jim Steinman. This album went on to sell over 40 million+ copies and spawned a follow up in 1993 with Bat Out Of Hell 2.
1980 A Small Circle Of Friends - Steinman writes and produces an all-orchestral soundtrack for this UA movie release.
1981 Bad For Good - Jim Steinman writes and arranges his only solo album with himself and other featured vocalists. This album was once again produced by Todd Rundgren with Steinman at his side.
1981 Dead Ringer - Meat Loaf, Steinman writes (but does not produce) another set of songs for Meat Loaf's follow-up LP. Worldwide sales stand in excess of 8 million copies.
1983 Faster Than The Speed Of Night - Bonnie Tyler, produced and directed by Steinman and featuring the #1 worldwide hit single, "Total Eclipse Of The Heart." This was the first album by a female artist ever to break in at #1 on the UK charts and earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Female Vocalist.
1983 "Making Love Out Of Nothing At All" - from The Very Best Of Air Supply, Jim wrote and produced this #2 single (which, ironically, was held from the #1 position by Steinman's own “Total Eclipse Of The Heart”).
1984 Signs Of Life - Billy Squire artist, co-produced by Steinman. No Steinman penned tracks were on this album.
1984 "Left In The Dark" - Barbra Streisand - Emotion LP. Jim wrote and produced this #1 Adult Contemporary single which also was Barbra's first video and featured Kris Kristofferson.
1984 "Read 'Em And Weep" -from Barry Manilow's Greatest Hits Volume II LP. Jim Steinman wrote and produced. This song stays at #1 on the AC charts for 11 weeks.
1984 Streets Of Fire Fire Inc. - Jim writes and produces some of the concert music for this Universal Pictures/Walter Hill film, starring Diane Lane. Steinman songs included "Nowhere Fast" and "Tonight Is What It Means To Be Young."
1984 Footloose Bonnie Tyler Jim co-wrote and produced the single "Holding Out For A Hero," for this Paramount Pictures movie release starring Kevin Bacon.
1985 "Hulk Hogan's Theme" -from The Wrestling Album, wrote and produced. Recorded by Steven Rinkoff during the Secret Dreams sessions…
1986 Secret Dreams And Forbidden Fire - Bonnie Tyler, produced by Steinman. This album also contains the Steinman penned songs "Ravishing," "Loving You's A Dirty Job But Somebody's Gotta Do It," "Rebel Without A Clue" and "Holding Out For A Hero." Jim also directed the highly acclaimed video for the Desmond Child song "If You Were A Woman And I Was A Man." Recorded by Rinkoff and John Rollo. Also marks the first meeting and beginning of 21 years of the Steinman and Rinkoff working relationship (with a few breaks in between for sanity from each other, we hear).
1987 "This Corrosion" and "Dominion Mother Russia" - Sisters Of Mercy Steinman produces these two singles from The Sisters Of Mercy's Floodland album.
1989 Original Sin - Pandora's Box...Steinman writes and produces this LP which is recorded by his all-girl band, Pandora's Box. Its All Coming Back To Me Now demo was recorded by Rinkoff and the album version includes vocals by current Dream Engine singer, Elaine Caswell.
1990 "More" - Sisters Of Mercy Jim co-wrote and produced this single for The Sisters Of Mercy Vision Thing LP. Recorded and mixed by Rinkoff.
1993 Bat Out Of Hell II - Back Into Hell - Re-uniting with Meat Loaf, Steinman writes and produces the album follow up to Bat Out Of Hell. This album generates huge airplay behind the Grammy nominated Song Of The Year and #1…”I’d Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That)”. Recorded and associate produced by Steven Rinkoff.
1994 The Shadow - Wrote and produced the single "Original Sin (Theme From The Shadow)," recorded by Taylor Dayne. A Universal Pictures release. Recorded and co-produced by Rinkoff.
1995 "Never Forget" - Take That. Jim co-produced this #1 UK single for the band Take That. Recorded and co-produced by Rinkoff .
1995 "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad" and "Making Love Out Of Nothing At All" Bonnie Tyler...written, produced and remade by Steinman, appearing on the album Free Spirit. Recorded and co-produced by Rinkoff.
1996 "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" - Celine Dion Written and produced by Jim along with "River Deep Mountain High," and "Call The Man", also produced by Jim for Celine Dion’s 1997 Album Of The Year…Falling Into You. “…Me Now”, Recorded by Rinkoff and Larry Alexander and co-produced by Rinkoff, Jeff Bova and Roy Bitten won Jim (along w/Steven, Jeff and Roy) an Album Of The Year Grammy as producers of these tracks . This song went on to also win BMI’s Song Of The Year In 1997 representing the most radio plays that year.
1996 2003 Whistle Down The Wind Jim as lyricist to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s score has had productions at The National Theater (Wash, DC), Aldwych Theater (West End, London) and various UK touring companies. Steinman and Rinkoff, with Lloyd Webber, record and produce tracks on the gala highlights version of this show recording including tracks with Boy George, Tom Jones, Meat Loaf, Bonnie Tyler and Boyzone, leading to…
1996 “No Matter What” the single performed by Boyzone Jim and Lloyd Webber’s #1 song from Whistle Down The Wind tops the pop charts throughout Europe. Largest selling single from a theater musical to date.
1997 2006… Tanz Der Vampire Musical and cast recording. The Roman Polanski directed, award winning musical in which Jim wrote the music. Jim also produced the cast album in support of this hugely successful musical. Tanz has played to audiences in Vienna, Austria as well as Stuttgart and Hamburg Germany, Warsaw Poland, Estonia, and currently readying for a Tokyo opening summer of 2006 and Budapest 2007. 2000 to date Steinman songs are further finding their way into mainstream, in TV ads for Dr Pepper (award winning ad) and hit television shows such as American Idol and Cold Case. Films such as Mr.& Mrs. Smith, Bandits and Shrek 2 have also recently featured Steinman tracks. Just to name a few. Productions of BOOH in theatre & film are actively in preparation.
2002 Wuthering Heights CA Jim writes songs and Executive Produces a film for MTV, based on the classic book Wuthering Heights, set in modern times. Music recorded and co-produced by Steven Rinkoff
2003 Shrek 2 Jim’s song Holding Out For A Hero (written with Dean Pitchford) is resurrected with two inventive and thrilling versions. The orchestral version finds the fairy godmother (played and sung by Jennifer Saunders) singing Hero at the climax of the movie. Jim has finally (or once again) captured the under age 6 market.
2006 The Dream Engine the newly formed vocal and music group from Jim Steinman and Steven Rinkoff premieres at Joe's Pub, Feb 12th (&Feb 13th) as a blizzard blanketed NYC. The blizzard ranks as the most snowfall ever to cover Central Park in a single day. Despite that and minus a soundcheck, the band filled Joe's Pub with melodic, thunderous and emotional Steinman songs as the show went on as scheduled to a packed house (despite the snow). Special guest star Bonnie Tyler belted out Total Eclipse Of The Heart and The Dream Engine explored new and classic songs.
